Woohoo! Some like-minded daredevils!!! HOWEVER! I don't think I can intentionally drop an opal!!! I would be afraid that shock fractures might generate off of a crack that might not start up otherwise.

Just the thought of the sound of any of my opals hitting the floor is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. Hurts just to THINK about it! Y'all are a lot braver than I am!!

If the Blarney Stone were to fall and break, they'd be left with Blarney rubble.

Note that I said I DON'T 'deliberately' drop my opals on hard stuff, but it has been known to happen from time to time. I swear the laws of physics and gravity are defied when a good piece of rough or stone starts heading for terra firma. It takes FOREVER for it to get there. I like carpeting or fatigue mats under my feet in my cutting area, easier on the back, legs and the stones.

Hey Scott,
Those mats are great, with my clumsy fingers if I didn't have mats under me my opal, mortality would be much higher. What I also cringe about and time seems to stand slow is when the polisher grabs that opal you've been babying all day and getting that final finish and "twang", there it goes flying at 900 miles an hour and you become a "jet fighter pilot" with the enemy plane flying over your cockpit and you wrench your neck trying to keep your eye on where it went,  I've found most of them and, surprisingly, almost all have survived the collisions. :P

This one's going nowhere...it has my name on it :P

Please note the lack of fingerprints left on my pointer ...funny how it only hurts when you turn off the water supply

Hey Sean,
You've got some winners there!! Absolutely GORGEOUS.
I too dop just about everything and you can see in some of my pictures the scars and irregularities on both of my hands, but I'm still hooked on dopping. After all these years it just the way it is, of course at 67 carats even my fat fingers can hold on to that.
I would also like to follow these so keep us posted. :)

Not entirely happy with the polish yet and the photo's are far from ideal.

Have just uploaded a nice piece of doo doo weighing 185 carats..It will cut some beautiful pieces..
Once only offering with what I think is a very fair starting price..I won't be greatly dissapointed if it doesn't get a bid.

Cheers

Well knackers you must be over the moon. Not only was it exciting to see such specimens, they have to be unique but they have turned out to be just the best examples of this type of opal I have seen.

The natural shape is just ideal, the proportion of opal to matrix is perfect I reckon.

If you were to list those discs for sale here, I know I would be bidding! Ok I see you say you have, but Im having a bugger of a time finding the listing.

Congrats on the great job and for sharing.

Well I'll be.
Here I was sniffing around the cutters section on a slow night and stepped in here. CRAP and POO. How'd I miss this one?
Well I guess it's been stewing here a while and quite frankly I think it's worth stirring things up a bit, get those taste buds going.
Ahh, I'm salivatin now.
So come on, Sean, where's some more of these photos and who was the lucky blighter that took a doggy bag home? :P
Keep em comin!!!
